This is not the standard with current version of debian. I was also surprised that if this J is specifically for Debian that you do not take advantage of packaging utilities. As it is this Debian package is good for any linux that has this library. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: >Audit-Trail: Responsible-Changed-From-To: gnats-admin->neitzel Responsible-Changed-By: neitzel Responsible-Changed-When: Thu Jan 7 22:47:07 MET 1999 Responsible-Changed-Why: bug report was sent unformatted. First, however, I think I should explain a bit about some irritating naming: The j402a-Linux-Debian.tgz is explicitly explained on the juggle.gaertner.de web site as: j402a-Linux-Debian.tgz i386+ / Linux-2.0.30 built on a Debian-1.3 distribution; Unfortunately, the www.jsoftware.com maintainers didn't care to fetch this document this time and it's not part of the other information on www.jsoftware.com. This absence caused also installation problems for someone else and I will try to nudge ISI/Strand to be more careful in the future. (But generally, you can expect juggle.gaertner.de to be more up-to-date and authoritive for the Unix packages. In particular, the "current status" link on the Juggle home page is guaranteed to be OK. And that says:) j402a-Linux-Debian.tgz i386+ / Linux-2.0.30 built on a Debian-1.3 distribution; Yepp, that very old. Debian-1.3 has the old libc. We are right now nuking one of our older Linux boxes and will revive it with a current Debian-2.0 distribution which uses the glib2. It will be the practice environment for somebody just on her way from Unix user to admin, so I'd expect it that it will take another two weeks till she has created the environment that's necessary to build J packages. Please tell me how urgend it is to you to get a glib2 based Linux version. you need it NOW ==> I will try rig up another system with a current Linux distribution (Debian 2.0 or SuSE-6.0). you can wait 3 weeks ==> I will do it on the planned Debian-2 system. (I'd prefer the latter.) If you can actually work with the old libc-based current kit, I would like to suspend this ticket until I make the next complete batch of packages. Should be in the near future, say 2 months at most. So please let me know what your requirements are. About your packaging question: The short answer is, yes it's planned, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm already botching up the unified tar modell often enough. If anything, I would rather streamline the various packages a bit more than create more different variants. (And there would be many, if you have package-based inst kits for every supported platform, almost all different...). Since the packaging is rather a feature than a bug issue, let's not pursue it further in this context. Create the feature request on the brand new Juggle Feature Hitlist and let it compete against other change requests. [Please also see http://juggle.gaertner.de/pr/ how ease life for me at bug tracking. (use send-pr and one form for each separate topic -- I would greatly appreachiate that and others querying the archive as well.] State-Changed-From-To: feedback-closed State-Changed-By: neitzel State-Changed-When: Sat Mar 20 07:04:16 MET 1999 State-Changed-Why: I made a glibc2 based J package on a Debian-2.0 system. It will be announced shortly. >Unformatted:
